Why I Paint

I feel that I must express what it is that compels me to create art. Certainly I feel that what I have created speaks for itself. But it speaks with the language of my own soul, which is not always readily comprehended by others who are very different from me.

Painting for me is a necessity. My head is filled with fragments of thoughts so incomplete as to be un-thoughts and emotions that just seem to come out of nowhere and go back into nowhere with no explaination like the Cheshire cat. If this makes me sound a bit disjointed, well that's because, I am. That is until I start painting... I can't quite explain what happens during the process, but it works a lot like meditation. I become focused, a single vision emerges from all the choas, and as I continue doing more paintings, suprising patterns emerge that give me such a larger veiw of reality that is so full of beautiful meaning and graceful order. It's a gift from God, I'm convinced. The very Spirit who, in the beginning hovered over the waters of choas and brought forth order and beauty, gave me the ability to do the same in my own smaller way.

And, as you may have guessed by now, my art is very spiritual in nature. I feel closest to God when I am creating. Many of my paintings are prayers that are later answered as I meditate upon the image that I have created. Because of this I feel that even in my searching, my Father was there with me the whole time. And I know he always will be.

As I continue this blog, I will post my paintings and share my thoughts and feelings on them. With so many of these paintings, there is still so much mystery in them, even to me, and sometimes the images even take on new meaning when I view them again after completing other works. This is because most of my paintings are somehow interconnected in their meanings. And of course, I don't stop painting, so I'm always adding a new thread to this huge tapestry that I'm creating, and so, the overall vision is always changing.

My hope is that others will follow me in my meditative journey in paint and see some of what I see that brings such meaning and hope to my world. May it bring you all blessings as well.

Thanks for reading :-),
